For almost two decades, Brightling Academy has run a popular Home Reading program for our children.
Every child had a personalized cloth bag, and would choose a book from our in-centre library each week to take home to read with their families. The following week the book would be exchanged for a new one.
This month, though, we’re evolving this beloved program to make it safer in a pandemic environment. Rather than exchanging books between the Centre and the children’s homes, we’re introducing a weekly video storytime, with related activities our children and their families can enjoy together at home.
Every week, we’ll post a video to this website with a Brightling caregiver reading that week’s story, so the family can watch it together – and each Brightling child will bring home an activity sheet related to that story.
Watch for the first set of activities to come home with your child in the next few weeks, and then you’ll find the week’s “video storytime” linked to the front page of this site.
We hope many of our families will join us in this new initiative, and share photos of their Home Learning Program adventures with us!
