Over the years, Brightling children have been delighted by visits from Karlheinz the Bubbleman, who creates fun with enormous soap bubbles.

Karlheinz has been kind enough to share his “recipe” for super-duper bubbles on his website, with instructions you can use to create them in your own yard.

When we make them at the Centre (in smaller quantities), we use this mix:

  • 3 cups of water
  • 1/4 cup of Dawn dishwashing soap
  • 1 tbsp of glycerin

As Karlheinz says on his site, the bubbles have lots more staying power if you mix the solution the night before you’re going to make it. You don’t need special wands to make these big bubbles – even the plastic rings that hold canned drinks together make excellent bubble-shapers. We strongly recommend reading through all of Karlheinz’s advice, so you know how to get the best-possible bubble performance at home.
